SFPD Using DNA from Rape Victims to Identify Potential Suspects

There are a lot of reasons why survivors do not file charges and this yet is another example of how their experiences are weaponized against them by law enforcement.

On Monday, the District Attorney in San Francisco stated that the Police Department was using survivors DNA from past rape kits in order to identify potential suspects in other crimes.

The DA’s office says they became aware of this while reviewing a case lab report that stated ‘during a routine search of the crime lab’s internal database, a match was detected‘ with a biological forensic sample from a survivor taken for a rape kit in 2016
