President Joe Biden states that there is a “whole range of rights' ' that will come into question if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. According to USA Today, “ Biden said the same arguments included in the draft opinion could also be used to strike down the right of gays and lesbians to marry as well as constitutional protections for birth control”. President Biden said, “It basically says all the decisions related to your private life, who you marry, whether or not you decide to conceive a child or not, whether or not you can have an abortion, a range of other decisions”.
The first draft of the majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, was leaked by Politico on Monday night. The Supreme Court confirmed the draft's legitimacy the next morning with a comment from Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. called it “a singular and egregious breach [of trust]”. Reportedly at least five of the nine Justices were in support of this draft, although the court has made it clear that the draft does not reflect any final ruling.
